I guess my interview went better than I thought. The part about me being nervous was definitely true, but despite all of that I got hired! I am very excited. I will be teaching eighth grade English. I will have two classes one reading class and one writing class (4 classes in all). I don’t want to get into specifics too much for courtesy sake. However, the school is in Mississippi in a very small town. Now I am gearing up for classroom management and teaching middle middle school.
I finished my pre-work and now I am devoting my time to management and teaching strategies to use with my students. I have been watching some great videos about the ELA initiative on TFAnet. Here is the link to the first video in the series. Definitely check those out if you have time. I am also reading a great book Tween Crayons and Curfews: Tips for Middle School Teachers. It is by Heather Wolpert-Gawron who is a “tween” teacher in California. I really enjoy her insight and ideas about teaching tweens. You can check her out at Tween Teacher, her blog.
Do any of you middle school peeps have any tips or tricks?
