Well to say I was nervous would be a complete understatement. I was terrified and shakey. I got on skype ten minutes early and waited telling my self the whole time you are fine – you are fine – you are fine.
In the words from the Italian Job I was completely FINE – Freaked out, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional!
The Interview began via skype and I did not know to star at my webcam and not at the people, which is probably something a person who lives in China should know after using skype every week with my mom! Anyway, I remember them asking the first question (after how are you – I love the south!!) threw me for a loop. I had prepared myself for all of the possible questions except this one. They asked me to listen and rate myself in each area on a scale of 1 to 4. When they said I might need paper and pen, I knew I was in trouble. The entire time they were explaining the question my hand was shaking as I tried to write.
The good news – I made it through my first interview. Did I feel great afterwards? – No. But hey that is life – you will never do great every time it is all just trial and error.
Tips for people prepping for interviews:
- Don’t Psyche Yourself Out: If you do you will not appear confident and will be just as nervous as I was. I am not saying to completely wing it, but have confidence!
- FYI: This interview involved not just one person, but a group of people from the school. Be aware that all interviews are different and they may include just the Principal, but they could be a group of four our so people.
Good Luck to everyone who is interviewing for placement. I hope you do a marvelous job (I mean you are already awesome you made it this far!!)
